Join BCMF and MACO in Kelowna for Wildfire Community Preparedness Day to receive wildfire protection kits, learn home safety tips, and take part in community wildfire readiness efforts.
Event Recap:
On May 3rd, the BC Métis Federation’s Conservation Department partnered with the Métis Association of Central Okanagan (MACO) to host a community event in Kelowna as part of Wildfire Community Preparedness Day. With Kelowna identified as a high-risk region for wildfires this season, the event focused on proactive education, community readiness, and resource distribution. The Conservation team proudly delivered 30 W.A.S.P. Wildfire Home Protection Kits to BCMF and MACO members, equipping households with essential tools to help safeguard their homes during wildfire emergencies.
Throughout the day, team members provided live demonstrations on how to install and properly use the wildfire kits, answered questions, and engaged in meaningful conversations with community members about local preparedness needs and environmental safety. The event was not only a chance to share resources but also an opportunity to strengthen relationships and promote a culture of resilience. By bringing practical tools and knowledge directly to the community, the Conservation Department continues to support Métis families across the province in staying informed, prepared, and protected.
