Fall Update 2025

This edition features a look back at this year’s wildfire season, updates on our involvement in the CleanBC Plastics Action Fund, and a special story on Métis-led buffalo conservation. We are grateful for the continued support of our members and partners as we move into a new season with renewed energy and purpose.

Summer Update 2025

 Thank you to our members, volunteers, and partners for making this spring (praentaan) sayzoon so impactful. From shoreline cleanups to d’loo (water) awareness, your support keeps our conservation efforts strong. As l’itii (summer) sayzoon arrives, we hope you enjoy nature—whether at le laak (the lake), la mayr (the ocean), or la plaazh (the beach). Have a joyful and refreshing season!

Spring Update 2025

In March, the BC Métis Federation’s Conservation Department hosted the *All My Relations* retreat in Tofino, bringing together eight Métis participants from across the province for a four-day, land-based experience focused on cultural reconnection, storytelling, and environmental awareness. Set against the coastal beauty of the Pacific Northwest, the retreat blended Métis traditions with nature-based activities like forest hikes and watercolor painting, fostering healing, reflection, and a deeper understanding of Métis identity and responsibility to land and water.

Key efforts included donating seven Canadian-made spill kits to the Kelowna Yacht Club as part of the First Responder Initiative. These kits, tailored for small pleasure craft vessels, support safe boating practices and effective spill responses, showcasing our commitment to aquatic conservation and collaboration.

 In this month’s edition, we’re excited to share details about our upcoming event, Truffle Shuffle: Foraging with You, happening on October 29, 2024, in Chilliwack. Dive into the world of foraging and learn about truffles in this hands-on experience! Specific location details will be provided three days before the event.

We’re also gearing up for the highly anticipated Conservation Conference, set for February 8, 2025, at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel in Victoria. Stay tuned for more updates and registration details as we prepare for another impactful gathering!
