All My Relations Retreat

All My Relations Retreat

March 7 – 10, 2025

Trip • Tofino, BC

A weekend retreat of connection, culture, and conservation, where Métis participants engaged in reflective practices, coastal adventures, and meaningful community building on Vancouver Island’s west coast.

Event Recap:

The All My Relations Retreat brought together seven Métis members from across British Columbia for a weekend of deep connection, reflection, and cultural revitalization on the west coast. Hosted by the BC Métis Federation’s Conservation Department, the retreat offered a grounding and immersive experience rooted in Métis values, community care, and a strong connection to the land and water.

Each morning, participants engaged in reflective practices such as guided smudging ceremonies with cedar and sage, partner interviews, watercolor painting, and peaceful coastal hikes. A highlight of the retreat was the “Partner Reflections” activity—an unscripted space for heartfelt conversation and connection, culminating in shared introductions that honored each participant’s journey. For many, it was a moving reminder of the importance of being seen, heard, and supported within community.

Afternoons brought a sense of adventure and awe, with guided excursions along Vancouver Island’s breathtaking coastline. Participants experienced a wildlife boat tour, a helicopter flight to remote sea caves, and a visit to the Ucluelet Aquarium, deepening their understanding of local marine ecosystems and conservation efforts. These experiences were designed to foster both wonder and a deeper bond with the natural world.

Surrounded by ocean, forest, and shared stories, participants left the retreat not only with memories, but with renewed energy, meaningful relationships, and a lasting sense of belonging. The All My Relations Retreat was a living expression of Métis values—caring for one another and the natural world, and honouring the collective responsibility we carry as Métis people.

To commemorate this incredible experience, a digital booklet has been created, featuring participant bios, personal reflections, and highlights from the retreat. This booklet offers a deeper look into the stories, connections, and lessons shared throughout the journey.
