Event Recap:

On Saturday, February 22nd, the BC Métis Federation’s Conservation Department hosted Growing Roots, an engaging and hands-on event in Prince George focused on sustainable gardening and conservation awareness. The day featured a well-attended workshop at Art Knapp, where local gardening experts guided participants through the process of starting a sustainable garden—from growing seeds to nurturing soil health. Attendees left with new knowledge, practical tools, and the inspiration to begin their own gardening journeys in environmentally responsible ways.

In addition to the workshop, the Conservation Department hosted a community Q&A session where attendees discussed local conservation needs and explored ways Métis communities can get involved in protecting land and water. As part of our Environmental Emergency Preparedness Initiative, we also distributed spill kits to BCMF members, offering a practical resource for those who spend time on the water. The event was a valuable opportunity to build relationships, share knowledge, and continue fostering community-led environmental action in northern BC.
